Once Is Enough
To those of you who are worried about your entry getting through, please don’t. Enter it once. It is surprisingly irritating to see one from Gongol and one from Blog Carnival. Or worse, two from Gongol and one from Blog Carnival. The same applies to e-mailing and using a form; don’t.
It’s not going to earn you any points with the host. Both forms send entries the same place in similar fashion, and that amounts to the same as if you e-mailed it yourself. Pick one. You’re not going to be excluded because of it. For now. But it is annoying.

I understand your frustration, Brian; the thing is, I’ve personally had more than one entry eaten up by one of the submission engines, and hosts don’t always respond to emailed submissions. Maybe I’m just a “belt-AND-suspenders” kinda guy, but I also hate to miss an opportunity because the tech glitched.
Any suggestions? (Not trying to be a smarta$$, just trying to weigh the host’s need/desire not to be inundated with duplicate posts, vs not missing an opportunity).
Not Brian, Jay. Brian has never been the CotC administrator, just volunteered above and beyond by providing the form and sharing his template.
I see the inbox contents every week, whoever hosts, and have an idea of how well the submissions get through. It seems like both forms have at worst an almost unmeasurable failure rate.
You should never be e-mailing a host directly with an entry anyway, but if you suspect a problem with the form you used, it would be reasonable to e-mail separately that you are worried it didn’t get through and just in case here’s the link. I think I’d rather see that sometimes than see both submission forms used.
If it’s a fantastic post and something happens to it one week, you’d probably enter it again the next week anyway; a built in second chance. Nobody writes fantastic posts reliably each and every week (of course, if I included only “fantastic” posts this week, the 50% cut would have been more like 85%).
What to do about the rare lost entries? Stuff happens. It’s the internet; we’re lucky it even works at all.
Jay, sorry for the name mix-up! I do see your point (and didn’t know that you also see each entry).
I see your point about the duplicates on submission engines.
You’ve given me some good stuff to think about. Thanx!
Before telling people that they are doing something wrong, you may want to let Brian know this policy as well, as his form still states that people _should_ both submit using the form and email the weeks host - http://www.gongol.com/random/cotc/
